Keeping the bloody Lurgy at bay

My son is vomitting.

Like spew in the bucket, on the towels… gross, liquidy spew.  I don’t know if it’s gastro, a virus or his anxiety making him ill.

essential oils, Teacher Wellbeing

Teacher wellbeing

This teaching gig is hard.  It is emotionally challenging but generally incredibly rewarding… except when it isn’t.

Usually about week 7 or 8 of a term, when home base is in sight  but still feels like an epic run away, teaching, and everything about it feels like a drag.  I’m in week 7 of term 3 currently.  So, you can see where I’m going with this right?

My anxiety is bubbling just below the surface.  I can keep it from overflowing but my body is tired too, so this becomes even more challenging.  So, to get me through the mountains of marking as I prepare my year 12’s for written and performance exams I have been taking mini meditations at my desk.

I pause.

I grab my lavender peace and apply a drop to my wrists (pulse points) and then I close my eyes.  Yes, in a shared staff room. I bend my head slightly place both hands on my head (the scent from my wrist is now close to my nose) and I take three deep breaths.

Breathing in calm, releasing tension, breathing in balance, releasing control, breathing in joy, releasing frustration.

And then I silently repeat…

You got this! You’ve walked this path before, you will walk it again.  You know the way. Trust!

And then I open my eyes and continue with my marking, changing lives… one graded practice sac at a time.

essential oils

Frankincense… Frank… Franki… King of oils

An oil good enough for baby Jesus, right? Frankincense is part of the Home Essential Oils Kit at doTERRA and is a superstar of oils.  Franki is in my top 3 oils, along with spearmint (or peppermint) and onguard (immunity Blend).

One of the first reasons I started researching oils was when I was looking for a holistic approach to my Father’s Parkinson’s Disease.  Let me be clear, I was not looking for a cure, rather additional support and possibilities.  I honestly believe essential oils can coexist with modern medicine, but I have to wonder, before all these inventions what were we using to heal ourselves? Well, as an Outlander fan (top reference there) I know the answer is plant extracts etc.

Anyway, I digress…

I stumbled across Frankincense and my interest was peaked.

What I kept reading was that Frankincense is able to cross the blood brain barrier and this was what interested me considering Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition.

The brains blood vessels are lined by a strange structure called the blood-brain barrier. It closely controls what is, and is not, allowed to leave the blood supply and enter the brain. It’s your own personal customs and border security.

I am not great at the science part, in that my memory doesn’t retain all the facts.  I will read something, really like the research and evidence, start using the oil and then forget the ‘sciencey’ reasons it works.  So, I encourage you to ALWAYS do your own research as well… but I’ll do my best to explain some.

We started using a drop under Dad’s tongue Day and Night (read about ingestion here and make your own decisions on whether you are comfortable doing so, I am).  This has significantly reduced his drooling which has come about as a result of his Parkinson’s.  As a result, he feels more comfortable in public. Win, Win really.

OTHER FRANK SUCCESSES:

I use Frank on my face at night with lavender (I have a roller made up).  It has rid me of the risen bumps I had in my rosacea (I still have some redness, but the bumps are gone, yah!)

I use Frank whenever I wish to amplify the effects of another oil.  Or if in doubt about what oil to use Frank is my go to.  She’s that incredible.

But she isn’t cheap. Nothing good is.  Believe me, I tried cheaper ones and they were… not great.  doTERRA Frank is quality and you only need a drop or two so it becomes good value really.

The best way to buy Frank is by becoming a wholesale member.  Read more about the benefits here. Or click join and save at my website below.

How my journey began

Where and how did I start with Oils?

I seem to have developed an addiction to oils.  Is there an oil for that? — {UNKNOWN}

In my mad search for ways to assist my now 10-year-old with his struggles, pre his ADHD diagnosis, I would spend countless hours googling…

Terms like…

Behavior issues. Emotional Meltdowns. Negative thoughts.  My son melts down at school…

the list was endless.

I was also looking for ways to support my Dad with parkinson’s which lead me to Frankincense (more on that later, Frank deserves a whole post)

Along the way, I would discover oils.  This led me to several MLM companies, and this just wasn’t my bag as I don’t do hard sells (remember… anxiety).  But I kept coming back to the purity and the quality of doTERRA (and this will get it’s own post too soon). And so after a workshop that was in a clinic NOT someone’s home (which I loved and felt less pressure because of), I realized I could enter the game on my terms. No hard selling!!  And I could spread the word to those who want the same experience. I know you’re out there :). I’m happy to be your guide and support but to read your signals about when and how.

I know there are people who want in on oils but don’t want to hold ‘parties’ even if they are actually called ‘classes’.  People who want to try vetiver (or something similar) for it’s grounding properties and support for ADHD (check the research) but don’t want to commit long term (I can order for you), people who don’t want to feel like they are drinking the Kool-Aid of the latest town gimmick or feel excluded from the girl gang of the other sellers… I know because this has been me and I refuse to believe I’m alone in it all. People who want to buy and sell online or without constant fake ‘check ins’ till they’re worn down. I’m here for you.

So, if you are keen on learning more, or starting an oily journey, let me know.  I can help… no pressure, seriously!  Oils are one of the 4 game changers for my wellbeing.  They support my classroom and my students love them.  My kids voluntarily fill their diffusers each night and apply oils before school.  And all in all, we smell great with no toxins.
